He broke onto the music scene little more than three years ago, but Soulja Boy has already splashed out a staggering $3million on gold jewelry.
The 20-year-old rapper – real name DeAndre Cortez Way – has become one of the hottest urban acts to break out of the US ever since single ‘Crank That (SouljaBoy)’ stormed to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September 2007, but he admits blowing a hefty chunk of his earnings on bling – because he sees it as a sensible investment.
“Gold is the best thing going, honestly,” he told MTV News. “All of my jewelry together…gold is where it’s at.”
And Soulja – who celebrated his 20th birthday with a star-studded bash at popular Hollywood nightspot The Highlands back in July – insists his pricey collection of accessories is kept under lock and key.
"It’s heavily secured,” he said. “I keep my jewelry locked up, I keep it on watch. Whenever I select a piece…I put everything else up.”
