. Cole Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200

J. Cole, 26, bows in the No. 1 slot with "Cole World: the Sideline Story," selling 218,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan.

It's the Roc Nation/Columbia artist's first album and marks the first time a solo act's debut effort has entered at No. 1 since May 14, 2010. That week, B.o.B started at No. 1 with "The Adventures of Bobby Ray" with 84,000. Cole's launch is the highest sales week for any act's debut chart effort since Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday" started with 375,000 at No. 2 on Dec. 11, 2010.

Other noticeable movements are Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne's Carter IV, which fell two positions to No. 7 with 67,700. After five weeks the album has moved 1,452,500 copies.

Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch the Throne fell from the Top 10 moving down two slots to No. 11 with 28,000. After two months in stores, the duo's LP has pushed out 930,300 copies.

Lastly Beyonce's 4 received a two-slot boost to No. 23 with 15,700. With 14 weeks knocked out, the mother-to-be's new album currently rests at 818,300 records sold.

  1. Still wonder though how drake managed to outsell Cole, cos he's raps don't come close to Cole.

  2. It's easy, besides the fact that he's a far better artist than J. Cole, dude has more mainstream appeal thanks to Lil Wayne, who does a great job in grooming/exposing his artists.

  3. I think they neck to neck but Drake is better. He is a complete artist, not just a rapper. He reminds me of Andre 3000.
